Nashville’s historic Merritt Mansion is being moved in preparation for its transformation. AJ Capital Partners is relocating the Wedgewood-Houston mansion this fall, according to a release.

“The restoration and adaptive reuse of the Merritt Mansion is part of a larger strategy to retain the scale and character of the neighborhood while opening historic spaces to the community,” the release stated. “Thoughtful and careful preservation of the building's historic nature remains paramount throughout the repositioning process.”

AJ Capital has partnered with Nashville-based W.P. Camp + Sons to oversee the relocation of the home. The site has seen several iterations and relocations of the home throughout its history. The home was built by Captain John Rains, co-founder of Fort Nashboro, in 1799 and was given its federal-style face-lift in 1870.

“Leon Loop” is the name of the development surrounding Merritt Mansion. The project, which includes 55 residential units and retail space, will be anchored by the mansion and a central lawn.

AJ Capital Partners has spent the past nine years transforming Wedgewood Houston from heavily industrial into an artistic hotspot. The mansion-area project is just one piece of the firm’s larger 18-acre development known as Wedgewood Village.
